Update the Client's HOMEURL

The client's HomeURL is the Printer Installer server to which your client is pointing. In other words, it tells the client where to check in to receive printer driver deployments, updates, and so on. The HomeURL is generally something the administrator sets and does not need to change again. However, if you do need to update it because, for example, you changed the DNS name of the Printer Installer server, the HomeURL can be updated in one of two ways for both Windows and Mac. The following is a list of reasons the HomeURL may change.

  • when you first install the client from the Portal page.
  • whenever you visit the portal page and perform some action such as clicking a printer to install it.
  • when it is updated by command line arguments during installation or reinstallation using the .msi installer.
  • when you perform certain tasks in the Admin Console such as managing profiles, uploading drivers, importing printers from a print server, Active Directory management, and so on.

Method 1: Windows Manual Update

  1. Open the portal using the desired new HOMEURL.
  2. Select any printer, and then click Install Printer.
  3. When the Install confirmation prompt appears, select No.

Method 2: Windows Automated Update

Use an msi deployment product to deploy PrinterInstallerClient.msi with the following command that includes the new homeURL value.

\\server\share\PrinterInstallerClient.msi HOMEURL=http(s)://new.NewHomeURL.com REINSTALLMODE=vomus REBOOT=ReallySupress REINSTALL=ALL /qn /norestart

Method 3: Mac Manual Update

  1. Open the portal using the desired new HomeURL.
  2. Select any printer, and then click Install Printer.
  3. When the Install confirmation prompt appears, select No.

Method 4: Mac Automated Update

Open the terminal on the workstation and run the following command with either HTTP or HTTPS:

sudo /opt/PrinterInstallerClient/bin/set_home_url.sh http NewHomeURL.com

The HOMEURL is now set to the URL used to access the portal.
